July 13, 2020

As numerous fall sport registrations are starting to open, we've started to receive inquiries about our fall schedule. We are in the process of determining what sort of modifications will be needed to resume recreational classes this fall. A lot of this will be dependent upon the actions the state and Bloomington school district takes, in addition to the guidelines for youth sports.

Being an indoor sport poses a few more challenges than outdoor sports like baseball, football, or soccer. Currently, the number of people allowed in our gym is 25 individuals, which still presents a challenge for having multiple classes running simultaneously, and the inability to allow spectators to watch class.

The school district has a virtual event tomorrow night that we will be listening to (details below if you would also like to attend). They also have previously mentioned that a decision on this upcoming school year will be made at the end of July. We anticipate having more direction on our fall schedule in early August. Please watch for an update from us in a few weeks!

From the Bloomington School District:

The Return to School Community Engagement event is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, and will be carried on BEC-TV and available for streaming on Roku, Apple TV, and the BEC-TV website and Facebook page. Details at bectv.org/where-to-watch.

We will present plans for three educational scenarios that are aligned with the state’s current guidance, including traditional school, hybrid learning and Distance Learning 2.0. The new Bloomington Online School, a fully online school for grades K-12 will also be introduced, along with facility, transportation, food service and childcare plans.

The event is for families, students and staff. Viewers will have a chance to submit questions prior to and during the event at bit.ly/BPS-return.

Please note these plans are scenarios that are subject to change based on the status and severity of COVID-19 in our area, and state and public health requirements.
